Shabnam Sabounchi research employs different disciplines with the goal of attaining a holistic point of view towards definition of health and taking into account all the dimensions of physical, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing. Sabounchi is involved in planning and conducting health promotion and disease prevention educational programs and also preventive services in an interdisciplinary structure. He aims to build off existing and collect new data to apply systems-thinking to understand how potential sources of psychosocial and emotional factors can influence oral health behaviors and demand in different communities for dental care services.

Sabounchi worked as a dental practitioner for nearly two years in a rural clinic, which exposed him to how individual and environmental dimensions on public health issues related to oral hygiene.
