Fleishman Center whistles praise for Chris Ullman '86
On March 22, 2018, the Alumni Association celebrated its annual Special Recognition Awards dinner and ceremony in Manhattan. One of the 14 Binghamton University alumni recognized was Christopher Ullman, '86: an alumnus very close to the heart of the University and the Fleishman Center.
The Fleishman Center staff nominated Ullman as a Distinguished Service Medal Winner
for his connection to the University, professional successes, and desire to help fellow
Bearcats. The award is one of the Alumni Association's highest honors.
Since graduating from the University in 1986 with a degree in political science, Ullman has thrived as a communications professional — in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Ullman currently serves as Director of Global Communications for the Carlyle Group, an investment firm based in Washington, D.C. Ullman's path from Binghamton to Washington, D.C. has inspired hundreds of current and former students, especially those who are interested in venturing to D.C. after graduation.
Last year, the Fleishman Center held its first Washington, D.C. Employer Site Visit program, where Ullman hosted 34 students at the Carlyle Group. Ullman has also visited the Fleishman Center on-campus various times as part of the Cool Connections/Hot Alumni program, including a talk he gave in the fall of 2017 about the importance of personal branding, networking and more. Ullman's participation on-campus extends further than the Fleishman Center, as he recently delivered Lunch & Learn programs in the Harpur Edge office, as well as programs in the School of Management.
In addition to his career success, Ullman's intrinsic passion of whistling has led him to win four national and international championships, and publish his book Find Your Whistle: Simple Gifts Touch Hearts and Change Lives in June 2017.
Chris: Thank you for your contributions to the Fleishman Center, and your inspiration to our students, that make Binghamton University's culture of career preparedness a reality for our community.
