3 Day Pre-Arrival Program: Kickstart Your Career

Your college career is just beginning. Do you want to get a headstart on your career development AND move in to your residence hall before the rest of campus?

The Kickstart Your Career 3 Day Pre-Arrival Program hosted by the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development will help incoming first-year students grow as professionals in a short amount of time. Through workshops designed for first-year students and led by career consultants, you'll be ready to apply to internships, part-time jobs and other competitive opportunities before the semester even starts!

This program runs from August 15-18 with a $500 registration fee. The cost will cover all housing, transportation, and meals.

Participating students will:

  • Develop a comprehensive resume that can be used to apply to on-campus jobs, leadership and research opportunities, externships or internships
  • Create a first year action plan with meaningful goals based on your own career interests
  • Build your network both on and off campus with local employers, alumni, faculty, and staff
  • Connect to on campus career resources including career consultants and services that will assist you with your career development goals throughout your time at Binghamton
  • Learn how to use hireBING, Binghamton's robust online job and internship search network
  • Set up a great LinkedIn profile that will help get you noticed by recruiters
  • Move in early!

Friday, Aug. 16

  • 8-9 a.m.: Breakfast
  • 9 a.m.-Noon: Breakout Sessions (Career Exploration and Transferable Skills)
  • Noon-1 p.m.: Lunch
  • 1-4:30 p.m.: Local Employer Site Visits (Network with employers and learn more about career options!)
  • 4:30-6:30 p.m.: Faculty panel and dinner
  • 6:30 p.m.: Fun Evening Activities

Saturday, Aug. 17

  • 8-9 a.m.: Breakfast
  • 9 a.m.-Noon: Breakout Sessions (Resumes & Personal Branding)
  • Noon-1 p.m.: Lunch
  • 1-3 p.m.: Breakout Sessions (Networking and Creating Your LinkedIn Profile)
  • 3-4 p.m.: Campus Scavenger Hunt
  • 4-5:30 p.m.: Breakout Sessions (Creating Your 1st Year Action Plan)
  • 5:30-8 p.m.: Alumni Panel with BBQ & S'mores

Sunday, Aug. 18

  • 10-11 a.m.: Brunch
  • 11 a.m.-Noon: Becoming a Binghamton Leader
  • Noon-1 p.m.: Closing Session

Move-In Details

Tentative Schedule
Thursday, Aug. 15

  • 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Move-In to Residential Hall (See Details Below)
  • 3-5 p.m.: Check-In for the Program (See Details Below)


Move-In: All registered participants of the program will be able to move into their fall 2019 assigned housing anytime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m on Thursday, August 15th. Students should go to the Area Office in their community (marked in red X on map) to pick up keys. We recommend planning for at least 2 hours to complete the move-in process in order to be prepared to check-in/start the program.

*Please note there will be some big, green moving carts in the lobbies of each building. Please be sure to return these carts to the building lobby after use so others may use them.

Parking Details: Please use the following map and instructions to guide your parking 
1. Enter Binghamton University from Glenn G Bartle Drive and stop at the Information Booth (marked in blue) to collect your 2-hour temporary “unloading only” dashboard pass
2. Proceed to park in the temporary parking near your residential community, marked in yellow, and place your temporary pass on your dashboard. Note the end time of your parking pass.
3. After moving in, move your vehicle to park in any of the paid areas highlighted in orange on the map

*Please note you can purchase a day permit for $6 online before coming to campus here that would allow for full-day parking in any of the areas on the map marked yellow.


Check-In for the Kickstart Program: From 3-5 p.m., check-in for the Kickstart Your Career Program will be held in the University Union, Room 133-A. Please refer to the following map to identify the University Union building (marked in pink) and proceed to the area marked purple to find the destination. There will also be signage in the building to direct students to the proper office. The Welcome Dinner and Evening Program will follow, starting right at 5 p.m. 


Attire for Program

No specific clothing attire is required except on Friday, August 16. On Friday, we encourage students to wear “business casual” clothing as we will be traveling to local employers for site visits that day. Casual dress is appropriate for Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Any questions and/or concerns can be addressed by emailing careers@binghamton.edu
