2020 Commencement ceremonies

Dear members of the Binghamton University graduating class of 2020,

While we still anticipate rescheduling Commencement ceremonies, we must hold the safety and health of our students and their families as our highest priority while also heeding the limitations placed on us by New York state. While restrictions are loosening every week, there are still far too many limitations in place that prohibit us from holding large (mass) gatherings.

We understand that the results of the survey conducted in the spring reflected a preference for Commencement to be scheduled in August. Unfortunately, due to Executive Orders currently in place that limit the number of individuals allowed to gather indoors and outdoors, we have reached the point where an August Commencement is no longer feasible. It is our goal to continue to provide two month’s notice for any planned ceremonies. Our next target is the weekend of Nov. 7 and 8, we will let you know if that date is possible at least two months in advance.

We know this is not the information you were hoping to hear, but we remain hopeful and will make every effort to hold ceremonies to recognize our graduates and honor their accomplishments.

As always, feel free to contact our Commencement Office with any further questions or concerns at commence@binghamton.edu.
