After Hours Phone Consultation for Urgent Concerns
If you are in need of an urgent phone consultation with a counselor - either for yourself or someone you are concerned about - you may reach one of our counselors by calling the Counseling Center (UCC) at 777-2772 and pressing 2 on the voicemail menu. The counselor you speak with will ask for your name, but you may also remain anonymous if you wish.
The UCC is partnering with ProtoCall Services, which has provided professional mental health services over the phone since 1992 and currently serves over 150 campuses and two million college students. All ProtoCall call centers are staffed exclusively by master's- or doctoral-level mental health professionals. The counselor will offer you assistance with your concern. They are also familiar with the BU campus and local emergency services if such resources are relevant to your call. Any communication with our after hours counselors will be shared with the UCC to ensure appropriate follow-up services as needed when our office is open for regular hours (or earlier, if the crisis calls for immediate attention).
