Background

Nina Flanagan has 25+ years experience as a geriatric nurse practitioner. Her clinical experience is in a variety of settings, including acute care, rehabilitation and long-term care. Her clinical expertise includes primary care management of older adults and geropsychiatry.

As a consultant, Flanagan was responsible for implementing an Acute Care of the Elderly Unit (ACE) at Moses Taylor Hospital and also established the hospital as a dissemination site for Dr. Sharon Inouye’s HELP Delirium Project beginning in 1999. Her work was awarded a Best Practices Award for Detection of Delirium in Acute Care from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association in 2001.

Flanagan's research has focused on delirium detection in post-acute care with a particular focus on the role of informal caregivers and recognition of delirium symptoms. She was the principal investigator for the Predicting Risk Factors for Readmission Post Discharge from Skilled Nursing within the Geisinger Health System.

In addition, Flanagan has been junior faculty for Delirium Boot Camp at Harvard University. She also serves as an expert panel member for American Geriatrics Society Beers Criteria for Inappropriate Medications in the Older Adult.
