Doctor of nursing practice (DNP) programs
Our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists to respond more efficiently to changes in healthcare delivery and emerging healthcare needs for the future. Graduates gain knowledge and competence in health systems leadership, policy development and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve healthcare quality and increase healthcare access for all populations. The DNP focuses on providing leadership for innovative and evidence-based nursing practice. This requires competence in translating research in practice, evaluating evidence, applying research and decision-making and implementing viable clinical innovations to change practice.
Our research-based PhD program in nursing prepares graduates for research and active scholarship that extends the knowledge base of nursing and improves the delivery of healthcare for rural and vulnerable populations. Primary components include research and conceptualization, nursing and health policy, cognate courses and a dissertation. Graduates are prepared to design future practice models, direct the development of policy initiatives and effect meaningful change within healthcare delivery systems.
Master of science programs
In our master's-level programs, students select one of four functional roles to pursue: clinical nurse specialist, administrator, educator or nurse practitioner. Dual roles are available for additional credit.
For students already holding a master's degree in nursing, the Decker School offers post-graduate programs leading to a certificate as family, adult-gerontological primary care, family psychiatric mental health, or community health primary care nurse practitioner.
Advanced certificates are also available in disaster preparedness, nursing education and forensic health.
