Background

Michele Summers is a family nurse practitioner with certification through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She also holds board certification for gerontological nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Summers has more than 25 years experience in the education field and a lifelong passion for health promotion. She worked in home care as a case manager and represented the organization’s nursing research committee during their Magnet re-designation.

While earning her BS in nursing, Summers was a recipient of the prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence in 2009. She received her MS in family nursing-nurse practitioner with a certificate in nursing education in 2014, and earned a PhD in nursing in 2018, examining organizational programs and community factors that contribute to a reduction in hospital readmissions and reimbursement penalties in upstate New York.

Summers currently works with Northern Broome Addiction Awareness Coalition with the purpose of building social capital and reducing community stigma.
