Interim Chief Diversity Officer's Message

There have been increased instances of hate and bias towards Asians and immigrants in our community. We want to remind our community that novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is not an Asian sickness nor is it specific to one nation. It is a global pandemic. While viruses and other pathogens do not discriminate between hosts based on race, ethnicity, nationality or immigration status — people certainly do based on stigma and misinformation. Let us collectively support each other by spreading accurate information and resources. In these times it is important to focus on unity, as unity can help us all be safe.

For all information regarding COVID-19, please refer to the following sources:

If you or anyone you know has experienced bias or discrimination as it relates to this issue, we encourage you to submit an anonymous Hate and Bias Report or contact the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by visiting Library South Ground 548, emailing dei@binghamton.edu or calling 607-777-4775.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nicole Sirju-Johnson
