Laura Terriquez-Kasey teaches in the Advanced Certificate in Disaster Management Program, which was developed after the terrorists attacks in the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.

This program includes four courses:

  • NURS 540, Elementary Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  • NURS 546, Community Response to Emerging Health Threats
  • NURS 547, Community Response to Disaster Preparedness
  • NURS 549, Community Response to Chemical and Radiological incidents

  • Disaster care and practice in nursing

Research interests

  • Disaster education and disaster mitigation issues that need to be addressed by the global healthcare sector
  • Nurses have an obligation as healthcare providers to be prepared to respond to any incident that can occur in the United States or abroad
  • Nurses as patient care advocates need to continue providing for the public, by planning and focusing on care related to all incidents
