Graduate students at Binghamton University may be eligible for federal loans to help them finance their education.  There are two Federal loan options: Federal Direct Unsubsidized loans and Federal Graduate PLUS loansGraduate students must be enrolled in 6 or more credits each semester to be eligible for federal loan funding.

 

Federal Unsubsidized Loan

Graduate students can borrow up to $20,500 in Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan funding (if eligible) each aid year.  To determine eligibility, students should fill out the FAFSA application.  

Students in the following doctoral programs are eligible for an additional $12,500 in unsubsidized loan funding for the academic year:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy
  • Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology


Graduate PLUS Loan

To apply for the Graduate PLUS Loan online, go to www.studentloans.gov.  A credit check is performed as part of the application process.  Applicants will recieve an immediate credit decision.  Award recipients must also complete an additional Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the PLUS loan at www.studentloans.gov.

 

Alternative (Private) Loans
