Make Your Summer Count.
Dive into the World of Research.
Want to do real research — and get an experience that opens doors for you?
Looking to challenge your mind, future-proof your résumé and have some fun?
Our Summer Research Immersion (SRI) program provides students intending to major in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields with a one-of-a-kind research experience. Working alongside faculty and fellow students on cutting-edge research projects, you'll tackle weighty world issues, build powerful relationships, and set a course for college and career success. Through this structured research experience, students learn research techniques, acquire background on a research question and follow through on the initial phases of a real research problem. In addition to research skills, the SRI program emphasizes development of workplace skills that employers, graduate schools and professional schools, such as medical schools, expect in college graduates: communication, collaborative, project management, and leadership skills.
Research Stream Part 1 (summer session one: May 26 - June 26) covers theory, techniques, protocols and data management of the research. Research Stream Part 2 (summer session 3: June 29 - July 31) consists of applying that to the research problem, as student teams plan their experiments, conduct their experiments, analyze the results, and present their results. Students finish the program by presenting their research results in a public poster session.
Your personal and professional growth: turbocharged. You'll learn methods of scientific research and develop your skills of critical thinking and collaborative research earlier than most undergraduate students.
Your future will be brighter. You'll acquire a solid foundation toward your chosen career or advanced academic studies.
People will know your name. You'll find opportunities to publish in professional journals, present posters at conferences, seek industry internships, be considered for fellowships, and a whole lot more.
Renowned faculty members work with you. You'll build powerful connections with influential Binghamton University professors and lay the foundation for requesting valuable letters of recommendation, which are often required for scholarships internships and graduate school applications.
Great team members make for great friends. You'll work alongside students who are excited about the same things as you are and build important, long-lasting relationships along the way.
