An important notice about end-of-year gifts to Binghamton University
The end of the year is fast approaching. Due to the holiday, staffing on campus is likely to be at a minimum level during the final week of December. The University strives to balance providing services to our constituents with staff taking time off to enjoy the holidays. It is still possible to make a gift to the University before the close of the calendar year.
Gifts Received Online
Credit card gifts received and approved/authorized on the Binghamton University Foundation’s online giving web site by 11:59 p.m. EST, December 31, 2017 will be credited as 2017 gifts. Such gifts are approved and authorized instantaneously at the time the gift is submitted. Gifts Received Through The Mail
Cash/Check Gifts (United States Postal Service) – Gifts made by cash or check that are sent via the United States Postal Service (USPS) must be postmarked on or before December 31, 2017 in order to be credited as a 2017 gift.
Gifts made by cash or check that are sent through the USPS and received after January 1, 2018 will be credited as a 2017 gift only if the postmark reads on or before December 31, 2017 and the check is dated for 2017. Gifts postmarked in January with checks dated in December 2017 must be credited to 2018.
Cash/Check Gifts (Private Mail/Shipping Services) – Gifts made by cash or check that are sent via any private mail or shipping service (e.g., Federal Express, UPS, etc.) must be delivered on or before December 29, 2017 in order to be credited as a 2017 gift.
Gifts made by cash or check that are sent through any private mail or shipping service and received after January 1, 2018 will be credited as a 2018 gift.
Credit Card Gifts (Any Mailing Method) – Gifts made by credit card must be received and processed by Foundation staff by 2:00 p.m. EST, December 29, 2017 in order to be credited as a 2017 gift.
Gifts made by credit card must be processed through the Binghamton University Foundation’s credit card terminal in 2017 (with the charge authorized by the donor’s bank) in order for the gift to be counted and receipted in 2017. Any credit card gift not received and processed by 2:00 p.m. EST, December 29, 2017 will be credited as a 2018 gift. To avoid delays or proper crediting, we recommend anyone wishing to give by credit card make their gift online at giving.binghamton.edu so that gifts are approved and authorized instantaneously at the time the gift is submitted.
Donors wishing to make an end-of-year gift by stock are encouraged to make the gift by electronic transfer so that stock certificates sent through the mail are not held up due to limited staffing during this time. It is strongly encouraged that 2017 stock donations be received and processed by end of day December 22, 2017.
Donors intending to make a stock gift between December 23-31 should contact Sheila Doyle at 607-777-3844 or the appropriate development staff member.
Electronic transfers will be processed through our broker, Andy O’Connor at O’Connor Investments, but donors are asked to please notify Sheila Doyle (see contact info below) of their gift intent first. The donor will need to provide the following information: estimated date of transfer, number of shares being donated, name of the stock, and the gift designation (purpose of the gift).

Receipts for stock gifts will be dated with the actual date of the transfer of the stock. Therefore, if the transfer was completed by December 31, 2017, the gift will be credited as a 2017 gift.
