B.A., Anthropology, ICESI University
Modern Latin America/Gender and Sexuality
Advisor: Professor Nancy Appelbaum
I was born and raised in Cali, southwest Colombia, and obtained my BA in Anthropology from Icesi, a private University of my region. I did my bachelor thesis in musical consumption of salsa in my hometown, with a primary focus on urban cartographies and ethnography of music collectors. For my doctoral research interests, I'm focused on the consumption of Afro-Caribbean rhythms in Colombia to see their incidence in the performance of gendered urban identities and the construction of a "Latino diaspora" in the homeland.
