2024 Updated NYS Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse (Mandated Reporter) Training Workshop.
All applicants for Certification are required to complete two clock hours of coursework or training regarding the identification and reporting of suspected child abuse and maltreatment in accordance with Sections 3003(4) and 3004 of the Education Law. This training is available only from a provider approved by the New York State Education Department.
This training satisfies amendments to Social Services Law § 413 requiring the addition of Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma, Implicit Bias, and Identification of Child Abuse virtually within the New York State mandated Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect coursework.
This training includes all of the NYS newly required content and satisfies the legal requirements that every NYS-mandated reporter who has previously undergone the Mandated Reporter training undergoes the new updated training by April 1, 2025.
The program is approved for 3.0 NYS CE contact hours for licensed social workers. Licensed social workers may request to receive a CE certificate to prove CE contact hours, in addition to the NYS-required Child Abuse Identification and Reporting Certificate.

This training will familiarize practitioners with BFBT and how to implement it in a virtual setting. SFBT Involves the fundamental assumptions that people have the inherent resources to change and can create their own solutions. This approach utilizes specific types of questioning techniques aimed at helping clients think about behavior changes These questions help clients move beyond the sense of failure that they may have experienced through repeated attempts to solve the problem.
By the end of this training, practitioners should be able to:
- Describe and implement at least four key techniques of SF8T.
- Describe how SFBT may enhance engagement of youth, adults, and families with mental health services.
- Compare how solution focused interventions differ from problem focused interventions.

We are happy to once again offer a Social Work Licensure Examination Prep Course to students, alumni and community practitioners. This course will be offered through the Department of Social Work and will utilize the Social Work Examination Services Curriculum. This is a 2 day intensive program which includes comprehensive reviews of practice, policy and theory, two review books with 1,600 practice questions and four full examinations, practice examinations to sharpen test-taking skills and lecture outlines to reinforce learning. Nationally, students who have taken this course in the past have had a 92% pass rate on the licensure exam, however, if a participant should not pass the exam, they may retake the course at no additional cost, although there is a charge if a new set of books is requested. The cost of the 2 day course is $295 which includes the content of the course and the 2 review books. Because the course is so intensive, we will hold the class on two days.
The course will be offered on May 8th and 9th, 2024 from 9-4pm, and will be held in the University Downtown Center, Room 220AB. Registration is limited and will be on a first–come, first-serve basis.
NOTE: Books will be distributed on the first day of class.

Stalking is a prevalent, dangerous, and often misunderstood crime. This seminar session explores the dynamics of stalking, focusing on the highly contextual nature of the crime by discussing common tactics used by perpetrators, stalking’s co-occurrence with domestic violence, the use of technology to stalk, the use of risk assessments in stalking cases, as well as tools to plan for victim safety and hold offenders accountable.

You will gain access to the content through Brightspace within a few days after registering. All others will receive an email with login and password information to access the workshop by the 15th or 30th of the month (or the closest business day).
