Optional Practical Training (OPT) is employment authorization for international students in F-1 visa status in a job related to your academic major after graduation. You do not need a job offer to apply for OPT.
If you graduated in the Spring 2018 semester (May 20, 2018 graduation date), USCIS must RECEIVE your OPT application by Thursday, July 19 and within 30 days of the date your I-20 was issued. If your application is received by USCIS after this date, your application will be automatically denied.
If you have not applied for OPT yet, you must submit the Academic Advisor's Recommendation Form for Optional Practical Training to the ISSS Office prior to Thursday, July 12 so a new OPT I-20 can be created and to allow time to mail your OPT application to USCIS.
If you still have questions after reading the above information, please visit ISSS Walk-In Advising Hours for additional guidance. You can also email email@example.com.
If you happen to meet a new international student prior to Monday, August 13, please be sure to direct them to the ISSS (Old Champlain, Floor 1r, Room 142) during regular business hours. New students should bring their immigration documents (Passport, Visa and I-20/DS-2019). The ISSS is recording new student arrivals and distributing helpful early arrival information. After August 13, you should encourage new students to check-in with ISSS during their scheduled orientation dates.
Are you in Binghamton over summer break? Are you looking for something fun to do? Then you're invited to participate in Summer Soccer with the ISSS from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the Newing Co-Rec Field! We will play one or more non-competitive games of soccer. All students are invited to participate as either a player (all skill levels are welcome) or as a spectator (come cheer on your friends). Remember to wear sneakers and appropriate soccer clothes and to bring sunscreen, bug spray and water! The ISSS will bring the soccer equipment and soccer pinnies. Please note that if there is inclement weather, we will send event updates via email to those who have registered on B-Engaged.
To ensure we have enough staff to implement this program, we request that all participants register on B-Engaged. You can register by clicking the blue button on the right side of the B-Engaged Event webpage that says: RSVP to event. If you are unable to register via B-Engaged or if you have any questions, email Linda Torricelli, international student and scholar programming coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD) for Summer 2018 is available on the Graduation page of the Graduate School website. Timely completion of this form ensures timely completion of degree paperwork. Students must submit the GAFD by August 3, 2018. Students are also encouraged to take note of all degree requirements in the Graduate School Manual.
Are you currently completing a summer internship? The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development is looking for a few students to speak about their recent internship experiences during a panel this fall semester. The International Student Internship Secrets Panel will take place on Tuesday, September 4th from 6:00-7:00pm. If you are available and willing to speak about your internship experience and answer questions, please contact Erica Kryst at email@example.com. Thank you!
