10 Things You Might Not Have Known About Information Technology Services (ITS) Located in the Appropriately Named Technology Hub Building

Located on campus between the Union, Engineering Building and Bartle Library, the Technology Hub offers a wide array of tech-related availabilities. Below are the top 10 hidden gems that ITS has to offer you while attending Binghamton University.

1. Solve your tech problems. Tech problems? Don’t sweat it. Visit the Help Desk, where our experienced ITS staff will answer questions and facilitate resolutions. Sit comfortably at the TECH STOP and recharge your devices, watch our TV, or do some work while you are waiting to be helped. You can also check out our self-help page before you do anything else. The answer to your question might be found here.

2. Get free software. Need Microsoft Office 365? Look no further! The entire suite is available to all current BU students, faculty, and staff. Each student, faculty and staff member also has access to Google Apps connected to their Bmail accounts.

3. Get your 3D printing certificate! Have you ever wanted to learn how to make 3D objects from digital models? If so, ITS can teach you! Register for a 60-minute group training session to learn the fundamentals of 3D printing and to earn your very own 3D printed certification card.

4. Explore virtual realities. Binghamton can get a little dreary, but VR is a great escape. Come to the Emerging Technology Studio on the first floor of the Tech Hub to step into exciting three-dimensional, computer-generated environments.

5.  Play video games. Borderlands 3 and Gears 5 came out this month and you know what that means: you need to find a place to play video games on campus to escape the pressures of schoolwork. Use MyDevices to register your gaming devices and connect them to the internet.

6. Learn how to digitally edit videos. Thinking of becoming the next YouTube sensation? Stop by the ETS studio and edit your very own videos using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and iMovie.

7. Make your own website. Using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, ETS can teach you the fundamentals of making your own website. We currently offer Web Development Courses on Tuesdays from 2:30 - 3:30 PM in the ETS studio.

8. Learn how to use Photoshop. Take your image editing and graphic design skills to the next level! ETS teaches a beginners’ crash course that will give you the essential features needed to become the next Paula Scher or Annie Leibovitz.

9. Relax and unwind. SpectrumU Live TV Streaming is now available to all students living on campus! Over 200 channels can be streamed from wireless devices like laptops or smartphones, or directly from wired devices in your dorm room. Sign on and customize your personal settings and favorite channels.

10. Get social! Follow us @BinghamtonITS on Twitter and Instagram for the latest tech, security, and phishing avoidance tips to keep your computer safe & secure (and lots of funny and sometimes informative memes, of course)!
