What is eduroam?
Known to BU students as the on-campus Wi-Fi option, “education roaming,” according to InCommon, is “the secure, world-wide roaming wireless service developed for and by the international research and education community.” This service started in Europe and is now utilized in more than 33,000 locations worldwide.

What makes this so interesting?
Once a device is set up to connect to eduroam at a specific campus, the device will automatically connect to an established eduroam network regardless of location. This makes it easy for individuals who may find themselves visiting different campuses to have continuous internet access without having to set up a new guest account when not at their base campus.

How do I get connected?
To join eduroam with your Binghamton login, students, faculty, and staff must run JoinNow to properly configure the device while visitors should visit the ITS webpage for more information. Any questions or issues can be directed to the HELP DESK.
eduroam security is based on “the most secure encryption and authentication standards in existence today.” Be sure that your device is configured properly because “as long as the needed configuration items are correctly configured, any of the authentication types used in eduroam are secure” and your information is safe.
Why does my device keep disconnecting from eduroam?
Most likely this is because your device may not be configured properly. To double check, re-configure your device. Run JoinNow and follow the prompts to ensure your device is configured and can connect to eduroam properly.
