Technology Support Services provides world class technical support to Binghamton University students, faculty and staff.

Composition of Technology Support Services


Technology Support Services is composed of five entities:

  • ITS Help Desk - The ITS Help Desk is available to assist students, faculty and staff with technical problems or questions related to IT services. The ITS Help Desk serves as the initial point of contact for reporting problems or inquiring about technology used at the University.  The ITS Help Desk is staffed with both full time staff and is supplemented with student assistants.

  • Desktop Support - Desktop Support provides the following services to faculty and staff of Binghamton University:

    • Tier 2 and 3 support for operating system and software issues placed to the ITS Help Desk.

    • Computer troubleshooting and repair for University owned equipment

    • Dell & Apple Authorized Warranty Repair Facility

    • Network share drives (H: and/or S:)

    • Printer configuration

    • Price quotations for new computers, laptops, tablets and printers.

    • Computer and Smart Phone setup and initial configuration.

    • Computer Cleanup.

    • Hardware Recycling.

  • ResCon Program - The Information Technology Services Residential Computer Consulting Program (ResCon) provides technical support to students living on campus. The ITS Help Desk is the central point of contact for and refers problems to ResCons. ResCons contact students and make house calls to the residents, referring unresolved calls to Senior ResCons who refer unresolved issues to a coordinator at the Technology Hub.

  • Public Computing Labs (PODS) - Information Technology Services oversees campus computing facilities including public computing labs (PODs) and the Information Commons areas (managed jointly with the University Libraries).

    • Student Printing: Students are able to print in the PODs and from their personal computers to the Student Printers that are located in the PODs. Registered students receive printing “credits” and can use BUC$ for printing if they use all of their printing “credits.”

    • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (Bingview): Information Technology Services provides a Virtual Desktop environment (VDI) for specialized software.

  • Innovation & Research Support:

    • Innovation: The Innovation Team develops and maintains applications using cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services. The Innovation team also operates the Emerging Technology Studio (ETS) that is located on the main level of The Technology Hub. Various workshops and technologies are available in the ETS.

    • Research Support: Information Technology Services works with researchers to identify technology resources available on-campus and through outside providers to enhance their research capabilities. Technology Support Services provides technology support for the Binghamton University community, is a resource member of the Academic Computing & Educational Technology (ACET) governing committee, and liaisons closely with the Center for Learning and Teaching and Faculty Senate Executive Committee as required.
