About the Multicultural Resource Center

The mission of the Multicultural Resource Center at Binghamton University is to educate the campus community through initiatives designed to increase awareness and understanding of cultural diversity, its significance in the advancement of all fields of endeavor and in navigating our world. The MRC facilitates programs and activities supporting the recruitment, retention, personal and professional development of all students with special emphasis on students from culturally diverse and historically underrepresented populations.

What we do:

The MRC provides diversity training and education for the university staff and students using the Building Bridges to Cultural Competency Program. Training sessions are offered for staff four times annually. Student trainings target student leaders and staff on campus such as Orientation advisors, residential assistants, and new students.

The MRC facilitates programs that fall under four primary programmatic initiatives;

  • Educational Development
  • Student Recruitment
  • Student Retention
  • Inclusive Community Building

The MRC provides the Culture Connects Grant which is designed to promote collaborative efforts in programming among cultural organizations of diverse backgrounds. Student groups compete for funding to conduct programs that seek to educate the entire campus community.

The MRC is a resource center in that we directly provide funds to cultural student organizations on campus seeking to provide programs that are educational, culturally inclusive and encourage diversity within the university community.
