MRC Grants & Funding

The MRC offers Culture Connects grants each month during the academic year for cultural student organization programs and initiatives.  Please review the grant details and application information below.  For general questions about applying for a grant and/or sponsoring a new grant opportunity, contact the MRC at mrc@binghamton.edu or (607) 777-4472.


MRC Culture Connects Grant for Cultural Student Organizations

Purpose:         

The Culture Connects Grant is designed to promote collaborative efforts in programming among cultural organizations of diverse backgrounds. Student groups compete for funding to conduct programs that seek to educate the entire campus community. The recipient organization(s) for grant funding is determined every month.

Funding:

Varies, minimum $100 and maximum $800. 

Max funding will only be provided to programs that are large-scale and/or significant collaborations (at least three organizations involved in planning of event and/or with estimated attendance of over 400).  If your event needs excess of $800 feel free to submit a collaboration request.

  • Historically Underrepresented Groups
    • Asian or Pacific Islander
    • African American/Black
    • Hispanic/Non-White
    • Native American/Alaskan Native
    • International
  • Religious Community or Student Groups
  • Cultural Greek-Lettered Community
  • LGBTQ Community (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer, and/or Questioning)
Requirement:
  • Must be a SA/GSO chartered or university recognized in one of the populations listed above
  • Organization must be in good standing with SA, Fraternity and Sorority Life, GSO, SORC and/or MRC and registered with updated contact information on file in the MRC**
  • Seek to provide programs that are educational, culturally inclusive and encourage diversity within the university community
  • Program must but unique and culturally significant.
  • Send a copy of the Culture Connects application to MRC office on time
  • Regularly attend Cultural President's Council and MRC Student Leaders Meeting (monthly)
  • Event must be listed on the Cultural Organization Events Calendar, maintained by MRC, prior to submitting grant application.
  • Meeting with MRC Assistant Director or designee is required to complete application (notification will be provided after application is received)
  • Draft version of marketing is due at time of submission of grant application.  Once your organization has been approved for the grant, to secure funds, you MUST submit final copy of promotional materials that include "sponsored by Multicultural Resource Center or the MRC logo" (to include any flyers, posters and other social media posts pertaining to the event), materials must be submitted to the MRC for review and approval prior to posting, at least two weeks prior, and all marketing and promotional materials (containing MRC as a sponsor) must be publicly shared at least seven days prior to event otherwise funding will be revoked
  • Note: Email mrc@binghamton.edu for an approved copy of the logo and to submit your final flyer(s) for approval
  • Submit post event summary form to MRC office along with the group's appropriate account information for SA chartered, or requested bill invoice for other recognized groups
**MRC reserves the right to confirm organization's standing with the SA, GSO, SORC and/or Greek Life
Deadline:

Submit a copy of the Culture Connects application to MRC office at least six weeks and up to two months prior to scheduled date of the program (unless start of fall event (Aug/Sept), event is planned around an emergent or urgent need and/or deadline exception is provided by MRC).
