A. Daniel Miller

Background

Saxophonist Dan Miller received his BME degree with Performance Honors from Syracuse University and his MME degree from Ithaca College. His saxophone teachers have included April Lucas, Ronald L. Caravan, Steven Mauk, and Jamal Rossi. Dan has performed with the Syracuse Society for New Music, the Binghamton Philharmonic and numerous international touring shows and acts including Frankie Valli and Martha Reeves. He currently is a member of the Southern Tier Concert Band, the Empire Saxophone Quartet, and Rooster and the Roadhouse Horns. Dan is also the high school band director and the curriculum coordinator for music, visual arts and LOTE in the Spencer-Van Etten School District in Spencer, NY, where he directs the High School concert band and jazz band, teaches music theory classes, and is the stage director for the high school musicals. Each summer, he serves as a band director for the American Music Abroad Red Tour and has conducted concerts in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. He also co-directs the Southern Tier based Teen Jazz Project and serves as the music caption head for the Vestal High School Marching Band. He recently was honored with the Outstanding Jazz Educator Award from the National Band Association. Dan is a past president of the Tioga County Music Educators Association and regularly works as an adjudicator, guest conductor and clinician throughout the Southern Tier of New York state and Pennsylvania. He joined the Binghamton University Department of Music faculty in 2017.
