One of the highest honors given to graduate students at Binghamton University is the graduate student excellence award. This year, three of the honorees are from the Systems Science and Industrial Engineering Department.

The awards can be in acknowledgment of various achievements, including research, service/outreach and teaching.

Both Farnaz Zamani Esfahlani, a systems science student, and Mohammed Aladeemy, an industrial and systems engineering student, received the graduate student award for excellence in research.

This award honors the important contributions graduate students make to research at the University and the wide variety of approaches they take in the advancement of knowledge.

Awards are given once a year to 10 to 15 graduate students. Awardees are nominated by their department and selected by a panel consisting of faculty and a representative of the Graduate School. Research excellence awardees receive a gift and a certificate of the achievement.

Esfahlani received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tabriz in Iran, and Aladeemy received his bachelor’s degree from Taiz University in Yemen.

Rajesh Sharma Sivasurbramony, a student in industrial and systems engineering, received the graduate student award in recognition of service/outreach.

The award for excellence in service/outreach honors graduate students who distinguish themselves in service to their departments, academic programs, schools and/or the University. The award also recognizes students who have used their graduate education to make outstanding contributions to the community beyond the University. While outreach activities of all types represent important contributions to society, the service/outreach excellence awards are intended to honor outreach of a professional nature.

Sivasurbramony received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kerala in India.

Members of the Systems Science and Industrial Engineering Department are proud of all three award recipients and excited to see where their future research and service leads.
