Binghamton University’s Murali Jagannathan named co-editor of the Journal of Financial Research
Jagannathan is an associate professor in Binghamton University’s School of Management
Murali Jagannathan, an associate professor of finance in Binghamton University’s School of Management, is now a co-editor of the Journal of Financial Research (JFR).
JFR publishes academic research on a range of topics in the field of finance, including investments, corporate finance, financial institutions and corporate governance.
Jagannathan, who joined Binghamton University in 2000, is serving alongside William B. Elliot of John Carroll University and Erik Devos of University of Texas at El Paso.
While he has been an associate editor for other journals in the past, Jagannathan said this new position brings with it a significant amount of responsibility.
“This profession lives on people giving their time for the betterment of academia,” he said. “I’m happy to be a part of it and to make this kind of contribution to our field. That’s why we do research in the first place — to contribute to knowledge — and serving as an editor is an extension of that objective.”
Jagannathan said he and his fellow editors have made improvements to the system for submitting papers for review and are also attempting to broaden the scope of the journal.
“From my perspective, I get to read so many fresh papers that I would not otherwise read,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to further my own knowledge and learn some new things along the way. This is something I really do enjoy.”
Jagannathan began the position in January 2018 and will serve a three-year term. The quarterly journal is sponsored by the Southern Finance Association and the Southwestern Finance Association.
