Binghamton University Theatre Department to present historical comedy ‘The Revolutionists’

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton University Theatre Department will open its 2018-19 Mainstage Season with The Revolutionists at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall, on campus.

The Revolutionists is a ‘slightly accurate’ historical comedy written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Binghamton University Professor of Theatre Tom Kremer. In The Revolutionists, playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris.

The cast features Binghamton University seniors Margaret Leisenheimer as Olypme DeGouges, Liz Sierra as Charlotte Corday and Brianna Simpkins as Marianne Angelle, and sophomore Amelia Pena as Marie Antoinette.

Additional performances will be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 6, 19 and 20, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 21.

Tickets are $18, general; $16, alumni/faculty/senior/staff; and $10, student and can be purchased at the Anderson Center Box Office, online or by phone at 607-777-ARTS.
