Nursing job fair helps students explore career options
“Binghamton students are hard-working, dedicated and well prepared.”
That’s how Ashley Haugstatter, manager of nursing relations and retention at Crouse Health in Syracuse, N.Y., describes the students she met during Binghamton University’s Nursing Job and Internship Fair held Oct. 22.
Haugstatter was among the more than two dozen representatives from hospitals and healthcare agencies across the region who traveled to the University to take part in the event, which attracted 65 students from the Decker School of Nursing’s undergraduate and graduate nursing programs and three nursing students from SUNY Broome.
For Haugstatter, the trip was also a homecoming. She graduated from Binghamton’s Harpur College of Arts and Sciences in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology before earning a bachelor of science degree in nursing through Decker’s Baccalaureate Accelerated Track program in 2015.
“You can see the difference when Binghamton students walk up to you,” Haugstatter said. “They look you in the eye, introduce themselves and shake your hand. They have their résumés ready. They’re prepared, polite and motivated.”
Hosted in conjunction with the University’s Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development, the job fair drew representatives from 28 healthcare organizations looking to fill a variety of nursing positions. The nursing job fair, which was previously held in the spring, was moved to the fall based on participant feedback.
