Binghamton University Theatre Department to present ‘Guys and Dolls’

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Binghamton University Theatre Department will premiere its fall musical of the 2018-19 Mainstage Season, Guys and Dolls, at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Watters Theater, in the Fine Arts Building, on campus.

Guys and Dolls boasts colorful characters and a score that includes such favorites as “Luck Be a Lady,” “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat” and “I’ve Never Been in Love Before.” Desperate for funds to secure a venue for his illicit gambling enterprise, Nathan Detroit offers high-roller Sky Masterson what he thinks is a safe bet. Can Sky take any doll Nathan cares to name on a date to Havana, Cuba? Surely not if the “doll” Nathan chooses is determined do-gooder Sergeant Sarah Brown of the Save-a-Soul Mission. But it turns out that hearts are at stake in this game as well as souls − and where love’s concerned there’s no telling how the dice will land.

This production of Guys and Dolls is directed by Professor of Theatre Anne Brady and choreographed by Assistant Professor of Theatre David Wynen, with musical direction by Kristina Ruffo.

Additional performances will be held at 8 p.m. Nov. 10, 16, and 17, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 18.

Tickets are $18, general; $16, alumni/faculty/senior/staff; and $10, student, and can be purchased at the Anderson Center Box Office, online or by phone at 607-777-ARTS.
