Zero Discrimination Day is an annual day of celebration to promote inclusion and equality that originated with the United Nations and those who support its mission, encouraging countries to examine potential discriminatory provisions in their laws and policies. The Division of Student Affairs took this same theme and looked at University policies and how they impact the students who seek to serve through a Zine Challenge. The challenge encouraged students to submit zines based on a prompt question around what they experience at Binghamton as it relates to discrimination and to provide a picture of what life at our University would be like without this discrimination. Novelist, Marvel Comics writer and activist Gabby Rivera helped us talk about this topic and judge our challenge. She provided great insight to our students and staff in a very realistic and familiar way. This event provided an opportunity to collaborate with the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) and Q Center on campus. We awarded the top two entries with prizes sponsored by the MRC and Visions Federal Credit Union.
