National TRiO Day

The Binghamton University TRiO Programs were joined by other regional TRiO programs at Appalachian Dining Hall on Saturday, Feb. 23, for their celebration of National TRIO Day. The day included student presentations about their experiences as students from marginalized backgrounds, a catered lunch and keynote speaker Jessica Jannier, who delivered an inspirational message and strategies to increase resiliency. Over 200 people from the following programs attended:

  • Cazenovia College - Student Support Services
  • Rockland Community College - Student Support Services
  • Cornell - Upward Bound
  • Dutchess Community College - Student Support Services
  • LeMoyne College - Upward Bound
  • John Jay College - Upward Bound
  • Binghamton University - Upward Bound
  • Binghamton University - Upward Bound - Rural
  • Binghamton University - Upward Bound Math/Science
  • Binghamton University - Student Support Services
  • Binghamton University - Student Support Services - STEM
  • Binghamton University - McNair Scholars

Other notable guests included Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger; Faith Vavra, field representative and caseworker from U.S. Rep. Anthony Brindisi’s office; and John Doherty, Binghamton University’s first TRIO director, who started at Binghamton in 1963.
