Construction update spring 2019

48 Corliss (Decker School of Nursing)

The contractor has begun work at 48 Corliss Ave. at the Health Sciences Campus in Johnson City. The site is fenced and old windows are being removed. Flooring is also being removed inside to begin the process of installing new utilities. Excavation will be underway soon on an addition that will house an elevator/stair tower, lobby, classrooms and mechanical room. The renovation of the first four floors will create classrooms, simulation labs, offices, advising and conference space, an information commons, food service and public space for the Decker School of Nursing. Work will be complete in August 2020.

Pharmacy basement

Finishing work is underway in the basement of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences including painting, tile work and flooring. This project is providing hub facilities for the Health Sciences Campus for University Police, Environmental Health and Safety, and Information Technology Services. Work will be complete later this spring.

Pharmacy R&D building

The campus is working through the design and estimate process with the consultant. The facility will support School of Pharmacy research efforts and be connected to the SOP building. Work is expected to begin in summer 2019, with completion in fall 2020.

Science 2 renovation - Physics Wing

Asbestos abatement is complete and demo work is underway. The entire physics wing is being renovated to provide multi-discipline undergraduate labs, classrooms, restrooms, energy-efficient exterior fenestration and updated MEP building systems including air conditioning. The project is expected to be complete in 2020.

Engineering Building rehab

The contractor has completed demolition and mechanical system rough-ins are also complete. Framing for walls is progressing and drywall work will be underway soon. Upgrades to HVAC systems including new air handlers, chiller and duct work are part of the project. Upgrades to power panels, lighting controls, fiber optics and emergency generators and new ADA-compliant offices, classrooms and restrooms are part of the renovation as well as new exterior, energy-efficient cladding with insulated panels and new windows.

Onondaga renovations

Finishing work has begun with painting in bedrooms and hallways. Work to install walls in shower areas is progressing along with framing in the main lobby. Ceilings are being constructed in lounge areas. In general, CIW community renovations involve asbestos abatement and renovation of bathrooms including upgrades to building MEP systems. Lounge areas and corridors will receive new ceilings, flooring and lighting. Onondaga renovations will be complete in summer 2019

Major summer 2019 projects

Following Commencement, several major projects will get underway.

Hinman Dining Hall renovation/addition

A major renovation of Hinman Dining Hall will get underway in summer 2019. Existing spaces will be gutted and a 20,500 square-foot addition will be constructed on the west side of the building. The addition will house a new lounge, programming space, restrooms and retail space. The project will provide new finishes in all interior and exterior spaces and surfaces. New mechanical systems are included. A number of utilities will be relocated due to the addition. Completion is anticipated in fall 2020.

Cleveland Hall renovation

Renovation of Cleveland Hall in Hinman College will begin in summer 2019. The project will be similar to upgrades that took place in CIW. Asbestos abatement will take place followed by upgrades to interior spaces including updates to bathrooms. New mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems will be installed. The building will get a new roof and windows. Cleveland will also be air conditioned. Work will be complete for the fall 2020 semester.

University Union basement renovations

A project to renovate basement areas of the University Union that incorporates various student activity space will get underway in summer 2019. The general theme of the project is to create more open and welcoming spaces for students. New flooring, ceilings, lighting and furnishings will be installed. Existing block walls will be demolished and glass storefront systems will be used in a number of areas including the bowling alley, Late Nite and for three new study rooms. The area of Campus Mail Services will also be renovated. Some new mechanical, electrical and plumbing is included in the project. Work is a anticipated to be complete by the end of 2019.

Paving projects

A number of paving projects will take place this summer. Major areas of impact include a portion of West Drive, a portion of Bunn Hill Access Road, Clearview Drive and parking lots M3 and M4.
