The Parents Leadership Council (PLC) Annual Meeting

Twenty-four PLC members and 12 staff/administrators attended the PLC Annual Meeting on April 13, at the Engineering and Science Building at the Innovative Technologies Complex. Five finalists of 14 who submitted applications for monetary support from the Binghamton Fund for Student Life (BFSL) presented to the group, and the PLC awarded funding as follows: $5,000 to Emergency Funds (Dean of Students), $5,000 to B-Healthy in the Stacks (Healthy Campus Initiative) and $5,000 to Mentor Stipend, B-First Mentoring Networking (TRIO Office).

Other topics related to supporting student success included a report from Denise Lorenzetti, director of the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development, information about the newly formed Interfaith Council from Beth Riley and campus construction updates from Vice President for Operations JoAnn Navarro. PLC members concluded the meeting with time to meet in their sub-committees: family events, development, communications and BFSL.

Following the meeting, President Harvey Stenger hosted a reception for members and their Binghamton students at PS Restaurant in Vestal. Thirty-six attended along with University administrators and staff. Four PLC members and their senior students were recognized by Stenger. Several PLC members also were interviewed on camera to be part of a six-minute video to be shown to new parents during the Family Welcome at summer Orientation, as well as participated in a meet-and-greet during the Admitted Students Day open house on Sunday morning after the annual meeting.
