Helicopter operation at Binghamton University Sept. 27-Sept. 29

Temporary parking lot/building closures

BINGHAMTON, NY – A helicopter will be used to lift heavy equipment onto the roof of Science 3 at Binghamton University this weekend, prompting some temporary parking lot and building closures, as well as traffic delays.

Lot F1, the lot across from Science 3/4/5, will be closed from 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, through Sunday night, Sept. 29, to allow the helicopter and equipment to stage there. The helicopter will make short flights from the parking lot to Science 3 beginning at approximately 7 a.m. Saturday morning, Sept. 28, weather permitting.

Work should be complete by 9:30 a.m. Saturday. For safety reasons, an exclusion zone must be maintained around the flight path necessitating the temporary closure of Science 3 and Science 5, which will be vacated and locked during helicopter operations. In addition, West Drive will be closed to traffic from Science 4 to the intersection with Bunn Hill Access Road. Vehicles will be detoured to Bearcat Boulevard. Drivers may want to avoid the area during this period.

If there is a weather delay Saturday, the backup date will be Sunday, Sept. 29, so lot F1 will remain closed through the weekend.
