Acclaimed jazz musician Bria Skonberg to perform with Harpur Jazz Ensemble at Binghamton University

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Harpur Jazz Ensemble at Binghamton University will present a big band concert featuring acclaimed trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Osterhout Concert Theater, on campus.

A full day of jazz begins at 1:20 p.m. with a free mid-day concert with Skonberg, saxophonist Mike Carbone, pianist Andrew Carrol, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Michael A. Cortese. After the mid-day concert, a free jazz clinic will be held at 2:30 p.m. and the day will conclude with the 7:30 p.m. evening concert. All events will be held in the Osterhout Concert Theater.

Bria Skonberg has been described as “one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation” by The Wall Street Journal. She recently sang the music of Aretha Franklin alongside Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, played with U2 at The Apollo, sat in with Dave Matthews Band, was a featured guest with Jon Batiste and performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Madison Square Garden for a New York Rangers game. A bandleader since her teens, she has performed festivals and stages the world over, including New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival and over a hundred more.

Tickets for the evening concert are $10, general admission; $7, faculty, staff, alumni and seniors; and free for students. They can be purchased at the Anderson Center Box Office from noon-5:30 p.m. weekdays by calling 607-777-ARTS, online or at the door.
