Donors enhance scholarship suppprt available to students

Annual luncheon provides opportunity for donors, students to meet

Scholarships continue to be a popular choice for donors who want to support Binghamton University and its students.

Some examples of donor-funded scholarships that were established in the last three months of 2019 and administered by the Binghamton University Foundation include:

  • S. H. Ho Foundation, David and Martha Ho, MA ’78 Family Scholarship. The S. H. Ho Foundation Ltd. established this scholarship to help Binghamton recruit and retain a high achieving incoming first-year student who would not have otherwise chosen to attend Binghamton.
  • Joseph Family Scholarship. Roberta Joseph ’82 and Michael L. Joseph ’81 also wanted to help the University attract and support top students. Their scholarship will also go to an incoming first-year student who would have decided to attend a different university if it weren’t for this support.
  • Nelson S. and Leona C. Fiske Decker School of Nursing Scholarship. Leona C. Fiske provided her support to give selected BSN students total cost of education scholarships. A recipient must be an incoming first-year student accepted into the Decker School of Nursing.
  • Recipients of any scholarship must meet all criteria as outlined for that specific scholarship.

Scholarship donors and their student recipients have the opportunity to meet in person at the annual Scholarship Donors Luncheon. The 2019 event was held Nov. 9 on campus. Julie Sessler-Travis ’18 was the student speaker.

She is a first-generation college student pursuing a Binghamton master’s degree and teaching certification in early childhood, elementary and special education. She received the University Women Female Graduate Scholarship and the Dr. James E. Lee, MST ’70 Scholarship, established by the Roger Kresge Foundation.

The next Scholarship Donors Luncheon will be Oct. 17, during Homecoming Weekend.
