Annual mini-conference gives international students an edge on career and professional development

The Fleishman Center collaborated with International Student and Scholar Services to offer international students a one-day mini-conference to provide the tools needed to navigate their job or internship search. Now in its third year, the annual event took place on campus during winter break and was free for all students to attend. The conference was attended by nearly 60 international students and featured a series of professional development and interactive sessions that covered topics such as résumé writing, interviewing, LinkedIn and understanding CPT and OPT. The event also included a lunch with Yuvraj Vele ’16, who shared information on how he, as an international student, successfully gained employment in the U.S.

This is just one of the many programs the Fleishman Center offers tailored specifically for international students. As a result of these efforts, the center was recently awarded the 2020 National Career Development Association’s Award for Service to International Students. The award recognizes university career centers that have made an active commitment to partnering with and supporting the career development of international students. The center continues to offer new and innovative programs and resources for Binghamton University’s international students to help overcome the unique barriers they are presented with during the job search process.
