Donors answer call for student emergency support

Binghamton Fund for Excellence donors gave well over $50,000 from April through June for student emergency support, surpassing a gift-matching goal and doubling their impact for students in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

An anonymous donor to the SUNY Impact Foundation had agreed to match up to $50,000 of the gifts made to the Excellence account during that period.

Some of the emergency support was used in the spring semester to buy tablets and mobile Wi-Fi devices for students so they could complete their academic work remotely. Student emergency grant recipients received $500, on average. Additional emergency support will be used this fall to help returning students.

The Office of Alumni Engagement and the Computer Science Department are among those from the Binghamton University community that contributed to the emergency fund.
