Paul Parker to retire from research administration

Paul Parker has decided to retire after a long and distinguished career at Binghamton University, Vice President for Research Bahgat Sammakia announced in late June.

In more than 30 years as a research administrator at Binghamton University, Parker gained a reputation for his service mentality and strategic leadership. He has agreed to continue to serve as chief financial officer for the research division through the end of the year.

Mary Beth Curtin has been promoted to associate vice president for research. She has been nominated to serve as operations manager for the Research Foundation. Curtin’s career at Binghamton includes time as a grant and contract administrator and as director of federal relations. She helped to establish Binghamton’s Center of Excellence and since 2013 has served as assistant vice president for strategic research initiatives.

Lisa Gilroy will continue as deputy operations manager and assistant vice president for research.

“I am pleased that Paul has agreed to stay on and assist with the leadership transition, which I am confident will be a smooth and efficient one,” Sammakia said. “Paul has also identified a number of key projects that he would like to see completed before he formally retires in January of 2021.”
