Staff has begun moving into the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the Health Sciences Campus in Johnson City.

Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Staff began moving into the new facility in December. The renovation of the first four floors of 48 Corliss Ave. in Johnson City created classrooms, simulation labs, offices, advising and conference space, an information commons, food service, and public space for the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Meanwhile, in late November, work began on the fifth and sixth floors for a project to create facilities for the new physical, occupational, and speech and language therapy programs, as well as space for a joint partnership with Upstate Medical University. Completion is expected in summer 2021.

Hinman Dining Hall renovation

Much progress has been made through the fall and the existing Hinman Dining Hall structure along with the addition to the building are enclosed for the winter. Windows and walls have been installed throughout. Work is continuing on interior walls. Masonry, steel, mechanical, concrete work and work on the penthouse mechanical space is also progressing. The project involves a complete renovation/reconfiguration of the original building including new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems along with construction of a 25,500-square-foot addition. Work is scheduled for completion in summer 2021.

Science 4 Phase 2 renovation

The Science 4 Phase 2 renovation is well underway. Most abatement and demolition work was completed in December. Framing for new walls is underway. Work on foundations for building infills continues. The project entails renovation of offices, labs and support space on the west side of Science 4. New electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems are also part of the scope of work. The project will provide surge space to facilitate the Phase 1 renovation of Science 3. This project renovates the west side of Science 4 and the work is similar to what occurred when the east side of the building was renovated two years ago. Project completion is expected in fall 2021.

Science 2 tower renovation

Work to renovate spaces in the Science 2 tower began in early December. Asbestos abatement and demolition work is underway with reconstruction to follow. The project involves gutting spaces on floors three through eight and complete renovation of those spaces. A number of critical maintenance items will be addressed including asbestos abatement and new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. The tower exterior was re-clad and new windows installed enhancing energy efficiency under the Science 2 phase 1 east wing renovation project that was recently completed. Work is expected to be complete in spring 2022.

Technology Hub Data Center

Work is underway in the Technology Hub to improve the infrastructure of the main data center. The project will upgrade HVAC services to the area and install additional back-ups for systems and better security. It will also make the area more energy efficient.

Baseball stadium complex

Much of the work thus far has focused on underground work such as locating utilities, moving utilities and installing new storm, water and sanitary lines. Concrete work is underway as well to establish foundations for the facility. The project will create a new baseball stadium, clubhouse, indoor training facility, increased seating, locker rooms, batting cages, offices, study areas and athletic training room. Project completion is slated for early 2022.

Student-Athlete Success Commons

A project is underway in the West Gym to create a Student-Athlete Success Commons. The project will provide study, mentoring, advising and quiet space for student athletes and there will be improvements to an adjacent corridor. Work began in late November and is due to wrap up in February.
