During this quarter, the UDiversity Educational Institute provided 38 workshops (26 live virtual workshops for students, seven live virtual workshops for staff only, two live virtual workshops for faculty only and three live virtual workshops for faculty and staff) with a total of 1,072 participants (501 undergraduate students, 221 graduate students, 87 faculty and 263 staff). The UDiversity Educational Institute held its Building Bridges to Cultural Competency Phase I workshops for faculty and staff. This workshop examined ways to build cultural awareness for faculty and staff on campus. The institute also collaborated with several Student Association-chartered organizations during this quarter to provide cultural competency workshops. Organizations included BU A Cappella, APOTKE, Delta Phi Epsilon, Pipe Dream, Harpur’s Ferry, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE) and TEDxBinghamtonUniversity. UDiversity also continued its inaugural dialogue series with the Psychology Department and Res Life focused on inclusion and equity for their faculty, staff and students. This series includes discussions focused on active listening, social identity development and culture, and incorporating anti-racism, racial healing and equity framing and approaches to their work. UDiversity provided training for the Academic Advising Department on ways to create inclusive organizations. In addition, the unit worked with faculty to provide cultural competency sessions for their classes. These sessions were completed within the following schools and programs: Decker School of Nursing and the Division of Public Health. UDiversity also provided two workshops focused on civic engagement with students in partnership with the Center for Civic Engagement. These session topics were the “2020 Presidential Debate Watch Party” and “What Now? How to Hold Elected Officials Accountable.” UDiversity also provided its final two workshops within tits Inclusive Pedagogy series as part of the newly mandated professional development requirement from the Division of Academic Affairs for new faculty. Furthermore, the UDiversity Educational Institute implemented its first 2-credit CDCI internship for students at Binghamton University. The goals of the internship are to: a) foster cultural competency, b) enhance self-awareness around identity and c) provide facilitation skills for students to engage in dialogue around diversity, equity and inclusion. Student interns assist UDiversity professional staff with communications and marketing, coordination of workshops/events and analyzing collected data from workshop evaluations.
