Levell Sanders named new men’s basketball coach

Binghamton University athletics formally introduced Levell Sanders as its new men’s basketball coach Monday afternoon. Sanders, an assistant coach for the last two seasons, was promoted to succeed Tommy Dempsey, whose contract wasn’t renewed.

A former Seton Hall standout and All-BIG EAST selection, Sanders has been with the Bearcats since 2019. A Brooklyn native with a noteworthy basketball pedigree, he steps into a familiar leadership role, having served as head coach for five years in the Czech Republic before coming to Binghamton in June 2019.

Celebrating Women’s Athletics event set for April 15

The Binghamton Bearcats Athletic Association (BBAA) will host the 16th Annual Celebrating Women’s Athletics scholarship event, presented virtually by M&T Bank at 6 p.m. EST on Thursday, April 15.

Held each year to recognize the achievements of Binghamton University’s female student-athletes, the event also raises funding for scholarships awarded to female student-athletes at Binghamton University. This year, WNBA superstar and impactful leader, Breanna Stewart, is the featured speaker.

Former baseball player Rampey passes away

Binghamton baseball lost a member of its alumni family Jan. 24, when Jarrod Rampey ’06 died after a four-year battle with colon cancer. Rampey, 36, lived in King, N.C., and was a regional manager at TriNet, a human resources firm. He is survived by his parents, Robby and Gay Rampey, sister, Rebekah Rampey Sammons (Jason), niece, Kaylee Sammons, girlfriend, Sally Pak and his beloved dogs Waylon and Jackson.

Former golfer Wheet passes away

Former Binghamton golf student-athlete Casey Wheet passed away on Feb. 10 at the age of 36.

Wheet, a native of Elmira, played for the Bearcats from 2002-06 and was a member of elite teams that reached the NCAA Regionals twice and won 18 invitational titles during his tenure.
