Team releases spring 2021

Mackay wins America East cross country title

Senior Emily Mackay won the women’s individual title as well as the accompanying automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, highlighting Binghamton’s performance at the America East Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon at the Seaview Pines Golf Course. She will next compete at the national meet, which will be held March 15 and be hosted by Oklahoma State.

Mackay named Northeast runner of the year

The honors continue to pour in for senior cross country runner Emily Mackay.

Three days after placing 14th overall at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and earning All-America honors, she was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) Northeast Region Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year. It marks the first time in the 20-year Division I history of the Binghamton cross country program that one of its runners has earned the major award.

DePrez wins second straight EIWA wrestling title

The Binghamton University wrestling team competed at the 177th EIWA Championships Friday afternoon in Manheim, Pennsylvania. The Bearcats were led by national powerhouse Lou DePrez, who captured his second consecutive EIWA Championship title. In total, BU was able to capture three automatic bids to NCAA Championships as Jacob Nolan and Joe Doyle earned spots in St. Louis.

​Baseball picked second in preseason poll

Binghamton baseball has been picked to finish in a tie for second out of eight teams, according to the America East Coaches’ Preseason Poll, released on Thursday. The Bearcats garnered one first-place vote and 41 points, tied with Hartford and behind only Stony Brook (46). Albany (27), UMass Lowell (24), NJIT (20), UMBC (13) and Maine (12) rounded out the poll.

Volleyball and men’s soccer hold preseason media events

With the start of the men’s soccer and volleyball teams’ first-ever spring season just days away, both programs met with the local media to discuss their upcoming campaigns. Head men’s soccer coach Paul Marco was joined by Noah Luescher at the event while head volleyball coach Glenn Kiriyama was joined by Regon Kennedy.

Men’s basketball player Mills named all-conference

Binghamton men’s basketball sophomore guard Brenton Mills has been selected to the America East all-conference team, the league announced Thursday morning. Mills is the lone underclassmen selected on the 15-player teams, earning third team accolades

Mills ranks fourth in the America East in scoring (14.6 ppg.) and is second in 3-point shooting (41%). In 14 starts this season (excluding a 23-minute return-from-injury game), he has bumped that scoring average up to 15.3 ppg.

Women’s basketball pair honored by America East

Sophomore guard Denai Bowman and senior forward Kaylee Wasco have concluded their 2020-21 women’s basketball seasons on a high note.

The America East released its all-conference teams on Friday morning, with Bowman being named first-team all-conference and also landing on the All-Defensive Team. Wasco, meanwhile, was selected to the America East All-Academic Team.
