Binghamton University to honor 20th anniversary of 9/11
Events to include talk from “Ground Zero” chaplain, annual Mitzvah Marathon
ln recognition of the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Binghamton University will host a series of events, including a Mitzvah Marathon and a visit from the senior chaplain at “Ground Zero.”
Friday, Sept. 10
8:30 a.m.
Memorial Courtyard, on campus
A wreath-laying ceremony will take place to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001. The names of the 15 Binghamton University alumni who perished that day will be read as part of the ceremony.
7:30 p.m.
Rohr Chabad Center for Jewish Life, 420 Murray Hill Road, Vestal
Col. Jacob Goldstein, the longest-serving Jewish chaplain of the United States military, was senior chaplain at “Ground Zero” for all military branches assigned to the World Trade Center. He will tell stories about his experience.

Binghamton University Police will conduct a flag-raising and -lowering ceremony.

Pavilion between University Union and Bartle Library Tower
The Rohr Chabad Center for Jewish Life will host its annual Mitzvah Marathon, designed to present members of the campus community with opportunities to do a good deed in memory of the victims of 9/11 and all victims of terror. Participants will have opportunities to contribute to charity, make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless, donate food to CHOW, design New Year greeting cards for soldiers or a get-well card for children in local hospitals and more. A mega blood drive through the Red Cross will take place from noon-6 p.m. Participants in the marathon will fill out a form documenting their good deed that will be attached to a picture of a victim of 9/11 and strung along a memory wall erected on the walkway near the Bartle Library fountain.
