Women’s soccer earns national academic honor

For the 15th time in 19 years, the Binghamton women’s soccer team has earned Team Academic Honors from the United Soccer Coaches (formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America).

In order to earn NSCAA Team Academic Honors, a program has to compile an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher during the academic year. The Bearcats handily met the requirement with a lofty 3.53 team GPA during 2020-21.

“Our staff is very proud of our student-athletes’ academic success last year,” head coach Neel Bhattacharjee said. “There were numerous challenges our team had to overcome with the difficulties during the pandemic and they rose up and succeeded in the classroom while also maintaining a strong competitive balance with an outstanding season. Congrats on a terrific academic accomplishment and we look forward to the program’s continued scholarly success.”

Cross country trio named to America East All-Academic Teams

Graduate students Emily Mackay and Dan Schaffer, as well as senior Aziza Chigatayeva have been named to the America East Cross Country All-Academic Team for the 2021 season. The conference announced that 10 men and 10 women have been chosen to the squads.

In order to be eligible for the America East All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.3. In addition, they must have been a significant contributor to their team during the current season.

“We are very happy for Emily, Aziza and Dan,” head coach Annette Acuff said. “All three of them continue to represent Binghamton very well both with their running and their academics.”
