As part of the requirements for students participating in Binghamton University’s Emerging Leaders Program (ELP), new students are tasked with designing and implementing a service-learning project in the local community during their first semester at Binghamton.

Students from the ELP’s Environment and Ecology Knowledge Community worked with the Chenango Valley School District on designing an interactive presentation on climate change and food shortages that was presented to second-grade students at the Port Dickinson Elementary School. The ELP students shared ways in which the elementary students could have a positive impact on the environment. The presentation concluded with every second-grade student taking part in a seed-planting activity to demonstrate just how easy it can be to have a sustainable impact on the environment.
