Everyday Bearcat program established

It’s no surprise that our world has been turned upside down by COVID. The student experience has also been very different than it has been in years past. Lately it seems, we hear regularly from students about feelings of isolation, loneliness and a lack of connection. We also know that there are exceptional students out there not only persevering through all of this but stepping up and contributing positively to the Binghamton community. Every day, we witness their random acts of kindness and efforts to make the lives of those around them a little brighter. We’re now beginning to recognize those students: the Everyday Bearcats. The Student Affairs Recognition Committee has introduced this initiative

Staff in the Division of Student Affairs are handing out stickers to any student they feel exemplifies what it means to be an Everyday Bearcat. This could be recognizing small acts of kindness like holding the door or clearing the rest of the table in the MarketPlace to larger initiatives like inviting students to a study group or helping their RA host an event. The definition really depends on the person handing out the sticker and what they value in an Everyday Bearcat.

When stickers are handed to students, the staff members express their gratitude and explain to them that they can bring the backing of the sticker to the Dean of Students Office for their personal invitation to an exclusive semester-end party of the Hinman Rooftop Terrace celebrating their actions.

COVID has made our everyday lives sometimes feel like extra work and going above and beyond feels out of reach. We hope that you join us in celebrating our students in an everyday way because for some, that is exceptional. Help us celebrate our Everyday Bearcats.
