Department hosts 17th annual Celebrating Women’s Athletics Luncheon

Olympic swimming gold medalist Nancy Hogshead Makar was the featured speaker at the 17th Annual Celebrating Women’s Athletics Luncheon presented by M&T Bank on Monday afternoon at the Events Center. The luncheon, which had 600 attendees, was geared towards raising support for the Binghamton Bearcats Athletics Association (BBAA) Women’s Scholarship Fund.

Student-athletes achieve 3.40 GPA for spring semester

Binghamton student-athletes continued their academic success with a 3.40 grade-point average for the spring semester. It’s the 10th consecutive semester the group has surpassed a 3.2 GPA. The spring achievement also marks the 20th straight semester that the group surpassed the 3.1 mark. The spring success also continued the department’s trend of outpacing the general student population on campus, which posted a 3.24 GPA.

Kara Gorgos named new associate director of athletics for sports medicine and performance

The Binghamton Athletic Department has announced that Kara Gorgos has been named the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance. An Assistant Athletic Trainer at Binghamton since 2016, she will oversee the athletic department’s Sports Medicine and Sports Performance units.

Seventeen student-athletes named America East Presidential Scholars

The America East Conference has released its list of Presidential Scholar-Athletes for the 2021-22 academic year and 17 Binghamton student-athletes are included among the selections. It marks the most selections that Binghamton has posted since the conference established the award in 2014.

Campus mourns death of men’s lacrosse student-athlete Robert Martin

The campus is saddened to learn of the death of Harpur College student Robert Martin, who played goalie on the Binghamton University men’s lacrosse team. The University wishes to convey its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

Marleen Clark retires after valued career

Since 2004, Marleen Clark has been the Program Assistant for the Binghamton Athletic Sports Medicine Department. During the past 18 years, she has performed her job with the highest level of professionalism and has won the respect and admiration of both her colleagues as well as the Binghamton student-athletes. On Wednesday, she will officially retire and leave a legacy within the Athletic Department that won’t be forgotten.

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) holds “Better Together” Games

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held the Better Together Games on Monday, April 25 at the Bearcats Sports Complex. It was a great event where the student-athletes came together to co mingle and not worry about all things school and sport. The student-athletes were broken up into teams and participated in various field games and stations. It was open to all student-athletes and SAAC tried to get as many people there as possible.
