Transition and TRANSFERmation Summit

New transfer students participated in the inaugural Transition and TRANSFERmation Summit on Aug. 18–19, prior to the start of classes. Created and co-sponsored by Student Transition and Success – Transfer Services and the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development, the summit provides time for new transfer students to connect with their fellow transfers, get a jumpstart on their career development, and get acclimated to Binghamton University and the local community.

The students had opportunities to make connections with faculty, staff and local employers through focused events during the day-and-a-half experience. The summit ended with a community service project at the Ross Park Zoo, complete with a “taste of Binghamton’’ dinner catered by the Spiedie and Rib Pit. After establishing this initial connection with new transfer students, the Fleishman Center and Transfer Student Services have worked to keep engagement strong through numerous other events, including the Transfer Cafe Series, the Transfer Mentor Program and events sponsored by Tau Sigma National Transfer Honor Society. A considerable increase in program participation and engagement with the transfer population has occurred following the summit and subsequent events.
