Binghamton University’s Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences announces that Pamela Stewart Fahs has been inducted as a 2022 fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN). She was among the 250 distinguished nurse leaders chosen for this year’s cohort of AAN fellows. The inductees received their awards at the academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, “From Reflection to Impact: Positioning Nursing’s Future,” Oct. 27-29, in Washington, D.C.

Stewart Fahs joined Decker College in 1985. She is a professor of nursing, with a specialization in rural health. Among the many roles she has held at Binghamton are director of the O’Connor Office of Rural Health Studies from 2001 to 2007, and interim dean of Decker College from July 2015 to July 2016. Currently, she is associate dean and the Dr. G. Clifford and Florence B. Decker Endowed Chair in Rural Nursing, a role she has held since 2007.

A leader with decades of experience in the field, Stewart Fahs has a national reputation for her work, which focuses on cardiovascular disease in rural populations. She is widely published and serves as editor-in-chief of the Online Journal of Rural Nursing and Health Care. She is also a previous recipient of the Anna Mae Erickson Nurse Leadership Award from the Rural Nurse Organization.

The American Academy of Nursing’s approximately 2,900 fellows are nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research. Fellows are chosen based on their significant contributions to health and healthcare.
