Manhattan alumni event highlights Tubman Center
About 30 alumni and friends attended a reception showcasing Binghamton University’s Harriet Tubman Center for Freedom and Equity Oct. 13, at the SUNY Global Center in Manhattan.
The Tubman Center conducts research on the legacy of slavery and freedom in American history and public policy, and strives to enhance Binghamton’s reputation as a place for innovation and practical solutions to longstanding historical problems.
Anne Bailey, professor of history and the center’s director, shared an overview of her work and discussed opportunities for alumni to support research, educational and community engagement projects, including a proposal to erect a monument memorializing Binghamton as a hub of refuge on the Underground Railroad.
The event included remarks from notable alumni Sunny Hostin ’90, LLD ’18, co-host of ABC’s The View; and award-winning journalist Jami Floyd ’86.
