School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences kudos, spring 2023

Three School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty were asked to present at the American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz., in March:

  • Emily Leppien, clinical assistant professor, spoke on “Alternative treatment strategies for chronic pain management”
  • Sarah Lynch, clinical associate professor and director of skills education, spoke on “The Dobbs Decision: Impact for Pharmacists”
  • Erin Pauling, clinical assistant professor and assistant dean for academic affairs, spoke on “The Crossroads in Diabetes Care: Social Determinants of Health”

Leon Cosler, associate professor of pharmacy education, was asked to chair an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality study section for a Special Emphasis grant panel that will review Mentored Clinical Scientist Career Development Awards and Health Services Research Dissertation grants.

School of Pharmacy P4 students applying for PGY-1 residencies were matched at the highest rate in New York state — 95.83%, which is more than 20 percentage points higher that the national average of 74.73%, and among the highest in the nation. The students matched are:

In addition, four P4 students were accepted for fellowships in industry:

  • Victor Gazdoiu in companion diagnostics with Daiichi Sankyo
  • Eric Kelly in global regulatory affairs with Sanofi
  • Stephanie Kovnat in global vaccines marketing with Merck
  • Teni Sopitan in marketing with RevHealth

Jennifer Fiscus, a P4 student who is a member of a capstone project with Clinical Associate Professor Sarah Lynch, was interviewed by a reporter affiliated with USA Today about recently passed legislation allowing pharmacists to prescribe. A story appeared in USA Today affiliates, including on the front page of Binghamton’s Press & Sun-Bulletin and, with a photo of Lynch’s capstone group, on the front page of the Elmira Star-Gazette.
